Philadelphia Universities Push Ahead With Merger Plans

Saint Joseph’s University and the University of the Sciences will proceed with plans to merge following a months-long evaluation process.

The two private institutions in Philadelphia first announced plans to merge in February. Subsequent legal, academic and financial reviews have not brought to light anything that would deter the institutions from proceeding with the merger, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Under the merger deal, Saint Joseph’s University, a 6,800-student institution on the western edge of Philadelphia, would acquire the University of the Sciences, a 2,400-student university in West Philadelphia. The merger is expected to be completed in about a year.
