College Unbound Receives Accreditation
College Unbound is now the 13th accredited college in Rhode Island.
The unique nonprofit college offers bachelor’s degrees and uses a high-touch virtual program to teach a student population that is more vulnerable. Rather than having its own campus, College Unbound leases office space and hires only adjunct faculty.
The New England Commission of Higher Education granted initial accreditation to the college in November, according to a news release from the college.
“Not only are we accredited by one of the most rigorous postsecondary accrediting bodies, but we were accredited two years ahead of our original schedule,” Dennis Littky, president of College Unbound, said in the release. “It is a testament to the hard work of the CU team, the remarkable talents of our students, and the national need for colleges that are student-ready.”
The Rhode Island Council of Postsecondary Education approved the college in 2015, and it received federal financial aid eligibility in 2019. Its graduation rate is 83 percent.
